2017 Minors Skills Assessment Schedule 3/6/17.

Minors Player Assessments: 3/6/17 (5:45-8:00 p.m.) In the Net, Palmyra--Arrive at In the Net BEFORE assessments begin BUT NOT LATER THAN 5:45 p.m.

5:30-5:45 p.m.  Players Sign in at “Dome”/lobby.  Minors and Majors at separate tables.  (Receive pre-assigned numbered t-shirt sticker.  Place sticker on “glove side” of chest area. Number will coincide with player assessment rosters developed the weekend before assessments.)

5:45-5:50 p.m.  Commissioners’ Welcome—in the Dome area.  Parents, Players and Coaches of both Divisions. 

  1. Introduction & Assessment schedule review of below.
  2. Guidance on getting hat and jersey sizing completed before leaving from assessments.   
  3. Note Safety concerns with small area in batting cages (only 2 players with a bat—must be inside a cage. No bats will be needed for fielding assessment event.)
  4. Following Commissioners’ welcome, parents should relocate to the lobby areas or may wait in their vehicles or parking area until assessments are completed.

5:50-6:00 p.m. Warm ups.  (Stretches, Jumping Jacks, Jog around outside of playing area.  1-2 laps max.)        

6:00 p.m. Majors Players and coaches ONLY depart through lobby and hallway to batting cages for Hitting Assessment.  Minors players remain in Dome to prepare for Fielding Assessments.  Parents should wait in the lobby area or parking areas.

6:00-6:10 p.m.  Throwing warm-ups (throwing and “long toss” in pairs.)

6:10-6:45 p.m. Fielding Drill (Ground Balls, Throwing, and Pop Flies) (Players line up in numerical order.)  Players go through drill once, then a 2nd time when all have gone through once. 

All players line up on Left Field sideline—foul territory. 

                    First player goes to LF.

  1. Two (2) Line Drives/Ground balls to LF—player fields balls and throws to 3B (Coach)
  2. Player runs to SS position. 
  3. Three (3) ground balls to SS—player fields grounders and throws to 1B (Coach)
  4. Player runs to CF
  5. Two (2) pop flies to CF—player fields pop flies and throws to 2B (Coach)
  6. Player runs to RF
  7. One (1) line drive to RF—player fields ball and throws to 1B (Coach)
  8. One (1) pop fly to RF—player fields pop fly and throws to Home.
  9. Player exits around right side of field and returns to Left field sideline in line to go again in order. 

All players go through the cycle twice. 

6:45-6:55 p.m. Running assessments for Minors players.

All players line up single-file on 1B dugout side. 

First player goes to batter’s box.

  1. Player runs through 1B and returns to back of line (stay in order)

Next runners repeat drill in order and return to line until all have gone.

  1. First player starts in batter’s box and runs to 2B (double) 
  2. Continue thru all players until finished. 

6:55 p.m. Minors players depart the Dome through the lobby and Hallway into the batting cages area.  Majors players will be returning through the hallway and lobby into the Dome/fielding area for fielding assessments.

7:05-7:50 p.m. Hitting Assessment – 5 swings per player (NO CLEATS)

  1. Players group in numeric order inside the batting cage building.  (NO PARENTS, due to limited space and safety).  Coaches observe from balcony above and behind the cages.)  
  2. Players hit in numeric order—(Cage 1 and Cage 2) 
  3. All other players remain inside the smaller, open spaced room below coaches’ balcony.  (NO swinging of bats by anyone outside a batting cage.)
  4. The next FOUR batters due up to hit should assist with gathering up baseballs when coaches call for help in the cages. 
  5. After hitting, players should return their bats to their bags, then join others in the waiting area of batting cages and remain quiet.

7:50 p.m. All Minors players report back to the Dome for wrap-up with Commissioners.  All parents should confirm that their player has been fitted for baseball hat, pants and jersey before leaving assessments.

Minors player draft night—3/7/17 (Head and Assistant Coaches ONLY.)

Practices begin—week of 3/13/17 (weather permitting)

HLL Picture Day—4/29/17

Opening Weekend—4/7/17 to 4/9/17

HLL Baseball Camps—(tbd)
