A Tough At Bat for Luke turned into a Day of Home Run’s

Earlier this spring, Hershey Little League (HLL) learned that one of its Major’s Division players was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.  This was devastating news throughout the HLL Community and Luke’s Teammates. In an effort to bring awareness to this rare form of pediatric cancer, in cooperation with Luke’s Family, HLL organized TEAM LUKE and hosted a fundraising event on Sunday, June 12th at Memorial and North/South Fields in Hershey.  The Hershey Baseball Community, kids, current and former players of all ages, including past Hershey Alumni came out in large numbers who HIT TO FIGHT CANCER for TEAM LUKE.    Along with one of HLL’s loyal sponsors, Advanced Insurance Solutions of Hershey and their Event Sponsorship contribution, the total event fundraising raised over $9,500.

Luke Szekeres had been diagnosed with Lymphedema http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/lymphedema/basics/definition/con-20025603 as a young child.  Then, earlier this spring, Luke was diagnosed with a cancer that has no presently known cure. The words a mother never wants to hear, “your child has cancer, a rare form of cancer in children.”  Angiosarcoma - is a cancer of the inner lining of blood vessels, and it can occur in any area of the body. The disease most commonly occurs in the skin, breast, liver, spleen, and deep tissue.  It is a skin cancer that is rare, especially in children, that comes from the lymphedema of Luke's leg.
