The HLL 15u Suburban team won its league championship game on Monday night against Paxton by a score of 4-1. Based on regular season records (HSY 15-3, PAX 14-4), it was a game between two evenly matched teams. The team, lead by Coaches Steve Roberts, Bruce Hancock, and Darin Kehler, jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with RBIs by Jagger Peck (2) and Max Schmidt and followed by another Schmidt RBI in the 5th inning. In total, Paxton put up one run on 5 hits and 4 walks. Hershey had a strong defensive effort by the entire team routinely making play after play. The game came to a dramatic close with a 1-6-3 double play with runners on 1st and 2nd and the pitcher running out of gas. Adam Wildasin pitched a complete game with 8 strikeouts.
According to Coach Roberts, key factors in the championship were: 1) team defense which was highlighted by an inning ending double (Karsyn Kehler to Chris Larkin) play in the first inning to get out of a bases loaded one out jam and 3 "picks" on balls in the dirt @ first base by Tyler Meister 2) solid pitching, 3) and the teams winning attitude with everyone embracing their respective rolls whether it was delivering offensively, making defensive plays, challenging hitters when pitching, pressuring the defense when running the bases, and even playing different positions as required by the Team.
HLL would like to thank Coaches Roberts, Hancock, and Darin Kehler for their leadership and service to the players of HLL.
